Black Horse Estate

Nestled on the edge of the Magalies River, just an hour's scenic drive from Johannesburg, lies the enchanting Black Horse Estate. Established in 2012 by Bernard and Karen Botha, this family-owned estate has become a cornerstone of craft brewing and distilling in Magaliesburg.

Previously an equestrian farm, there are still black horses on the property in green lush paddocks, near the beautiful walkway of gardens. A herb and vegetable garden supplies some of the restaurant's needs, while providing a relaxing and restful place to just sit, or explore.

A lovely place for 'breakfast runs' and close to other attractions in the Magaliesburg.

Accommodation

For those wishing to extend their stay, Black Horse Estate offers cozy chalets in stone builds, in a selection of cottages. Each cottage is designed to provide comfort and tranquility, allowing guests to immerse themselves in the serene surroundings. Waking up to the sight of Friesian horses grazing in the meadows is an experience that embodies the estate's charm.

There are 2 restaurants, available on weekends, and one during the week, both serving delicious breakfasts and a selection of a la carte meals.

The Black Horse complex is equestrian themed, in a quality and stylish way.

Gauteng.com's visit

Although we stayed at a different venue, we had breakfast at the Black Horse, and did the gin - making tour, with tasting. The staff were professional and friendly, the ambiance relaxing and the live music was louf enough to hear, but gentle enough to be able to converse. The Gin tour was interesting, and a variety of flavours available for tasting. Overall, the tour seemed to provide value and entertainment. As the pool is in a more open area, there didnt seem to be anyone swimming, however guests of the Black Horse were preparing for the wedding later in the day. From the Black Horse, we visited the Donkey Dairy and drove through the African Hills Estate close by.
