TRAINING CENTRE IN HONEYDEW
CROSS MEDIA TRAINING CENTRE -
International Print Media College
The Cross Media Training Centre is situated in tranquil surroundings on a secure campus in Honeydew. Training has been taking place for the Media, Advertising, Printing, Packaging and Publishing Industry since 1993. The centre is accredited by the MAPPP SETA and also has international accreditation from City and Guilds of London.
The Cross Media Training Centre is owned by the Printing Industries Federation of South Africa (PIFSA). It is the only college of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The Centre only trains 200 students annually across a range of 4 trades, therefore being able to boast with a student job placement rate of 75%.
What makes this college unique is that once students leave the college after training is that they are assisted in finding a job. Once employed they can sign a learnership agreement with a company. After spending approximately 2 years in a learnership, the learner is able to write the final trade test. This qualification is internationally accredited and recognised in 87 countries.
Students are selected according to the results of the psychometric tests which determine their technical trainability. These test are conducted at Cross Media and are also available to companies to determine the suitability of an individual for a learnership in the Printing Industry.
Cross Media has identified that major skill shortages exist in many of the printing trades resulting in elevated wages and a lack of good qualified individuals.
Desk Top Publishing (Electronic Origination) provides for two intakes per year, offering practical training in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign and including Technical Theoretical 1 (TT1).
Machine minding trades, Lithography sheet fed, Rotary and Flexography, are presented as operative courses of a 3-week duration. There are 4 starting dates during the year. There are several benefits to the individual as well as the industry, smaller student lecturer ratios, affordable fees for the individual and a constant stream of potential learners to the industry throughout the year.
The college has a full residence on the campus, which has secure parking and 24 hour security.
Nick Delport, MD of Cross Media Training centre, maintains, “We want to give hardworking young adults the best opportunities to achieve greatness in their lives”.
