Kloofendal is a small nature reserve situated on the West Rand, within easy reach of the centre of Johannesburg. It consists of pristine highveld vegetation with craggy quartzite outcrops. The reserve provides an ideal destination for a afternoon stroll.
The walks can be self guided or one can join one of the excellent trails lead by a qualified field guide. It is advisable to check that the reserve is open before planning a visit as during the winter months it can be closed due to fire hazard.
Bird and Wild life:
There is a bird hide at the small dam on the reserve and a while spent here can be well worth while. The wildlife on the reserve is restricted to smaller creatures but it is surprisingly varied. Many tree species have their home on the reserve.
Geology:
The reserve also is home to the geological site of Confidence Reef. This enclosed area can only be visited by special arrangement. Contact the reserve for more information.
Take a picnic and enjoy the day out. Explore the paths that crisscross the reserve. Visit the bird hide and spy on our feathered friends.
