Soccer City - originally known as the FNB Sports Stadium and now getting ready to play host to the FIFA Word Cup is Home to SAFA the South African Football Association of South Africa and to most of the major matches in South Africa.

Close to the world famous Soweto, Soccer city is being Revamped, with the addition of a second level to seat football fans. The design was inspired by African Pottery, and will hold the kick off , semis and quarter finals of many of the matches.

Soccer city is the venue for the opening match of the 2010 Fifa World Cup and will become a symbol of successful football in South Africa. Constructed in 1987 and the country's first world class stadium to be soley dedicated to soccer. With a beautiful upgraded Stadium proposed it can currently seat 94 700 people in its two tiered bowl will be spectacular to stage the grand opening of the 2010 Fifa world Cup.

Soccer City is home to SAFA offices and hosts most of the soccer prime occasions including matches with Bafana Bafana, Chiefs and Pirates the Giants, and most cup finals.

The budget of R1,5-billion has been set aside for the reconstruction of the stadium for the FIFA World Cup 2010 Matches and was approved by the council in December last year. Soccer City will host the opening and final match of the FIFa World Cup.

Built in 1987, Soccer City has a capacity of 80 000, which will be increased to 94 000 by March 2009. The two-tiered stadium will also have an encircling roof added - one of the major construction projects.
In additin to hosting the FIFA World Cup, Soccer city and its extensons will contribute to creating hundreds of jobs both in the development and in the maintenance of the facility

The City has also identified a number of training venues, some of which are being upgraded, including Orlando Stadium, Dobsonville Stadium, Rand Stadium, the Cecil Payne Stadium in Roodepoort, Rabie Ridge Stadium and Ruimsig Stadium.

Orlando and Dobsonville stadiums already meet Fifa's requirements in terms of the number of spectators they can accommodate, safety standards, medical facilities, flood lighting and media needs.

Soccer City is found next to the Nasrec Exhibition Centre near Diepkloof, and Orlando Soweto.
